In the first set of speeches, Monday and Tuesday nights, the following proposition was discussed:
"The New Testament is the exclusive authority in the Christian religion."
David Brown affirmed this proposition; Dr, Daniel Callam denied.
On Thursday and Friday evenings the proposition changed to this:
"The Bible and tradition, as defined by the Roman Catholic Church, constitute the authority of the Christian religion."
Dr. Daniel Callam affirmed this proposition, and David Brown was in the negative.

Oh my word! I'm so glad you posted this! I posted this on my blog a few months ago. Callam did such a good job, and the other "Church of Christ" preacher was just yelling ignorance.
Man what a nutcase that preacher was! It'as depressing that there are people like that still, who don't really understand much at all about Catholisism, yet will critisize it. The Father was very gracious in presenting the catholic view.
Fr. Callam is so gracious and humble in this debate that his manner alone points to the Christian truth in a way this protestant preacher completely misses. I was blessed to attend the chapel Fr. Callam was the chaplain of for my first two years of college (before his order asked him to move to Canada) and he truly is an incredible priest! Thank you for sharing this!
Mr Brown was way out of his depth and worse still he didn't even know it. He never did get the point about logic and truth despite Fr Callam's many examples. The funny thing about it all is that Mr Brown mocked Fr Callam on logic yet Fr Callam has a masters in Mathematics. :)
I could only listen to Mr Brown for one round. Fr Callam was excellent in his intellectual way.
One was a mental giant and the other a roaring buffoon.
Sorry, I forgot to thank you for posting these and all the other wonderful tapes. :)
That last post was mine.
God Bless,
Anne
Anon, You were truly fortunate to have had this wonderful priest. I'll be listening to him more than once.
God Bless,
Anne
I found the Church of Christ site that hosted this debate. They have a much higher quality audio. http://www.churchesofchrist.com/Catholic_Debate.html
I attended RCIA taught by Fr. Callam. He changed my life. I could literally listen to him speak for hours.

Me too! I didn't even know if I believed anything when I started. He's been away from my parish for the summer and I'm really looking forward to seeing him again.
I too attended this debate. Mr Browm made some great points that Mr. Callam could not/would not address. Mr Brown did not mock Mr. Callam. He just called to his attention some of the contradictions that Mr. Callam had made during his speechs during the debate. Mr. Brown did a great job of addressing the proposition(s)that they both agreed to address. Mr. Callam did a poor job of doing the same.
