Some months ago, John Jansen of Generations for Life traveled to Lansing and gave a great presentation for our high school club Homeschoolers 4 Life. He taught the teens how to present the pro-life position in a way that is both charitable and convincing to pro-choice advocates. The teens loved it. The parents loved it.

About Deacon Chip:

Deacon Chip Jones serves as a permanent deacon in the Diocese of Memphis, in West Tennessee. Ordained in 2000, Deacon Chip serves the people of God and the Bishop of Memphis at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett, TN.

Deacon Chip was born in December of 1960 in Atlanta, GA. A life-long Catholic, Deacon Chip attended St. Paul of the Cross Elementary School and Daniel M. Therrell High School in Atlanta, and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, in 1982.

Deacon Chip served on active duty in the U. S. Army for over 10 years, before leaving the service and moving to Bartlett. Deacon Chip and his family (wife, Ann Marie, and four daughters aged 23, 16, 12, and 8) have been residents of Bartlett, and members of St. Ann Church, for 16 years.

I hesitate to link to him because he went to West Point. Being a Navy man myself, I hate to give anything to those boys from the Hell on the Hudson. So if any of this audio is bad, be sure to blame West Point. If it's good, please give all the credit to the Holy Spirit. ;0)

Don't miss it! Live streaming of Pro-Life Summit

I've been hearing rumblings about this summit for some time and I think it is very important.

It's hosted by Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and will be taking place this Saturday at Christ the King parish in Ann Arbor, MI. The topic is how to end abortion in post-election America.

The bad news? It's sold out (500 attendees).

The good news? The summit is being streamed live on local WDEO Catholic radio here at 10am EST.

The better news? Relevant Recordings will be recording and selling CDs of the event here.

Speakers include Janet Smith, Al Kresta, Deal Hudson, Bishop Earl Boyea, Fr. Frank Pavone - you name it.

May such a gathering of pro-life luminaries and activists yield good fruit for the cause of the unborn.

These will ask Him, "When did we see You hungry, or thirsty or sick and did not come to Your help?" And Jesus will answer them,

As we have gathered here to pray together, I think it will be beautiful if we begin with a prayer that expressed very well what Jesus wants us to do for the least. St. Francis of Assisi understood very well these words of Jesus and His life is very well expressed by a prayer. And this prayer, which we say every day after Holy Communion, always surprises me very much...

Wesley J. Smith -- Bioethics Podcast

First, a disclaimer. Wesley J. Smith isn't Catholic. I don't claim he represents Church teaching, so know that going in. Don't expect Catechism because that isn't what he does.

That said...I haven't disagreed with him about a bioethics issue yet. Perhaps there's something out there he's blindingly wrong about, but I haven't seen it. After a few years of pseudo-regularly reading him, everything he advocates appears to be in alignment with Church teaching.

SO...here's the skinny:

I am back in the podcast business, renamed from Brave New Bioethics to What It Means to be Human. After consulting with my colleagues at the Discovery Institute--which is producing the broadcast--we decided that since I am dealing with issues well beyond bioethics now, the new title was warranted.

In the first edition, I define some of the threats to human exceptionalism and argue that accepting the intrinsic value of human life simply because it is human is the necessary intellectual condition precedent (as we lawyers say) to universal human rights.

40 Days for Life

David Bereit, the Director of 40 Days for Life, writes:
I have a VERY important announcement at the end of this message, but first some GREAT news!

On a day when many are stressed about elections, I just heard from one of our 40 Days for Life local campaign leaders who is bouncing off the walls with the exciting news that the abortion facility that was the focus of their campaign over these last 40 days is CLOSING!!

The "Space Available" real estate sign was put in front of the building on Thursday -- day 37 of the campaign. Yesterday, the local leader confirmed with the real estate company that the abortionist is shutting the business down for good.

We will have more details, including the location, as soon as the facility is closed -- which should happen very soon. But I knew you'd want to know that your prayers have produced an amazing result!

And another INCREDIBLE victory: as reports continue to roll in from around the country about the impact of the 40 Days for Life campaign that just ended, the number of confirmed lives saved during the 40 days is...

...520!!

This number surpasses the previous total for all earlier 40 Days for Life campaigns COMBINED!

The total number of lives saved through 40 Days for Life, from 2004 in College Station, Texas, through today, has now topped 1,000. Amazing, isn't it?

Let's praise the Lord for what He has done!
For all who helped...Good job! Don't quit praying now! If you didn't help this time, start praying for a successful next time!
