The biblical story of the Mass didn’t begin at the Last Supper and Good Friday, nor did it end there. Sacrifices from Abel and Abraham to Melchizedek and Moses set the stage for Jesus Christ, “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” The Mass sacramentally re-presents or makes present again Christ’s one Sacrifice of Calvary, which began on the Cross and culminated in everlasting glory in the heavenly sanctuary.
I've posted about it before, but this Bible study is so good I think it deserves a second go. You'll hear things here that you won't hear in any of the other talks on my site -- believe me, I've listened! In any case, Carson Weber, the Catholic layman who gave these talks (and freelance web designer - you know your parish website needs it give him a call!) wrote in and gave me some updated links. I've been listening to a Catholic Bible study lately and, let me tell you, it's fantastic. They're put on by a fella' named Carson Weber. Here's what his website says about him:
Carson Weber is the author of CatholicBoard and the Understanding the Scriptures Podcast. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in Information Technology from Texas A&M University (2001) and his Master of Arts in Theology & Christian Ministry with an emphasis in Catechetics from Franciscan University of Steubenville (2004). In the past, Carson served St. Mary Parish in Brenham, Texas as the Director of Adult Faith Formation & Evangelization. He also worked for the Saint Paul Center for Biblical Theology under the direction of Dr. Scott Hahn in Steubenville, Ohio. Currently, he works in the area of New Media Evangelization and Catechesis for the Catholic Church in Sacramento, CA. With so many things to complain about in our society, one thing about which I'm grateful (and hopeful!) is the fidelity and missionary zeal of young priests. Here's an example. A poster sent this in:
Father Chris acts as a simple catechist and gives a basic easy to understand background on the bible in the line of catholic tradition. Father Chris does not include heavy theology but he gives the reader a grasp on the bible by talking about the truth of the bible, the bible as necessary for salvation and the origins of the bible, he also gives sensible tips on someone beginning to read the bible.

Father Walsh is the 5th of 6 children born to John and Joan (Ramsey) Walsh.He worshipped and attended elementary school at St. Joseph Church, Downingtown.He graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School in West Chester in 1987.He studied at Temple University and received a B.A. in Sociology in 1991.< style=""> There he supervised a program for conduct disordered adolescent males and served on their Behavior Management Team.During this time he was actively involved with Youth Ministry at St. Joseph Church in Downingtown.
He entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in September of 1993 to begin studies for the Roman Catholic Priesthood. Throughout his years in the seminary he had a wide variety of pastoral internship experiences that included inner city and suburban parishes, an urban high school, a hospital chaplaincy, a residence for the physically disabled and extensive work with the Missionaries of Charity in the South Bronx of New York City. Father Chris was ordained by Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua on May 15, 1999.
Our Lady of Ransom Parish in Northeast Philadelphia was Father’s first parochial assignment.During his 5 years he worked extensively to develop the liturgical and devotional life of the parish.In addition, he devoted a great deal of time to Adult Faith Formation, seeking to implement the vision of the U.S. Bishops in their document Were not our Hearts Burning within Us.In June of 2004 Justin Cardinal Rigali assigned Father Walsh to serve as School Minister of Archbishop Wood Catholic High School and in June of 2008 named him the 8th Pastor of St. Raymond of Penafort Parish in the Northwest section of Philadelphia.Father Chris’ experience with retreats began early in his priesthood.In addition to a variety of days of recollection and weekend retreats at the parish level and regional level, Father has preached retreats to the IHM Sisters and the Missionaries of Charity throughout the Northeast of the United States.He received training in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola at the Jesuit Center at Wernerville

Vatican Radio recently featured an interview with Dominican Father Jerome Murphy-O'Connor, a New Testament professor at the École Biblique in Jerusalem. He's one of the world's most renowned scholars on the letters of Saint Paul, and the author of around half a dozen books on the apostle's life and work.
I had the privilege of meeting Fr. O'Connor back in 1996 while I was a seminarian studying in West Jerusalem. My classmates and I attended a lecture he gave at the École Biblique about the Way of the Cross. I had known of him by way of his excellent guide to the holy sites in Israel entitled The Holy Land, which, happily, has just been updated this spring. It was an exceptionally helpful supplement to the materials in my Biblical Archaeology class. The thing that most impressed me about Fr. O'Connor when I met him was that he has not only the mind of a great scholar, but also the heart of a great lover. When he described the narrow streets of Jerusalem down which Jesus carried the crossbeam -- streets so narrow that at times Jesus would have had to walk at an angle to clear the walls -- Fr. O'Connor began to weep. Here was a man who had probably delivered this lecture, or variations on it, dozens of times, but it had not failed to move his heart.
