I'm putting a link to a page at Lighthouse Media. If you aren't familiar with them, spend a few minutes checking out their program. Basically, you put up a "free CD" rack at your parish (requesting donations, of course) and let people get free CDs with talks by folks like Scott Hahn, Tim Staples, Pat Madrid -- all the good ones. The up-front cost is kinda' steep but their experience is that donations cover costs quickly and your fellow parishioners get sold-out for Jesus in a hurry.

Another option is to just join their CD club and they'll send you a disk for you to listen to and hand on. Pretty easy way to evangelize, frankly. I've heard about 15 of the CDs and they've all been solid.

In any case, they're giving away free MP3 talk by Dr. Scott Hahn on confession. Check it thou out.
Via the the closest person the Catholic Blogosphere has to G.K. Chesterton, both in wit, insight and beloved girth, the Great and Powerful Mastermind Mark Shea:

Scott Hahn and Fr. Robert Barron on, well, a Bunch of Stuff

I think the world of both of these guys, so it's wonderful that they have made these conversations available. Good stuff! And there's a bunch more at the YouTube site!
Agreed, Mark. Keep up the good work and how 'bout some more pics of Her Imperial Cuteness.

UPDATE: I'm bumping this up to the top. Pat Madrid's talk opens with a discussion about how Scott Hahn entered the visible world of Catholic apologetics. It's worth a listen for you fans of Dr. Hahn's work. I'm definitely subscribing to the Fullness podcast (linked at the bottom).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So...several years ago I started straggling back to the faith I always held (but never knew). A pivotal part of that path was attending a Fullness of Truth conference in Corpus Christi, TX. At the conference I was blessed to hear Fr. Corapi, Fr. Pacwa, Doug Barry and several others speak passionately and forthrightly about the faith.

Wonderfully, the conferences are still being held. If you get a chance -- GO!

All that's to say this: Pat Madrid spoke at one and gave the following lecture entitled "Why Be Catholic when You can be Anything Else?" Now the Fullness of Truth folks have put the talk on their new podcast.

Welcome to the first episode of the Fullness of Truth podcast. In this episode we share a little bit of the mission of Fullness of Truth in a talk given by Patrick Madrid called Why Be Catholic When you can be anything else.

Ok...not really. Again. I have a post with the same title a few posts down which claims the same thing, but Jeff Miller was kind enough to point out to me that it wasn't Dr. Hahn's "new" book, but rather one of his more recent. I got confused.

Fortunately, Chris Cash (the host of the Catholic Spotlight) came to the rescue. He writes:
"[Benjamin Wiker's interview] is an interview with his co-author about his latest book. Scott did not want to do the interview himself, he said that Ben was much more knowledgeable on the topic than he was and he has 3 deadlines he was trying to meet. I will let you know when I get him on again. I did have an interview with Kimberly that will post on monday at CatholicSpotlight.com, if you are at all interested in her new book, Graced and Gifted."

Oh, in case you don't know, Dr. Hahn's (and Dr. Wiker's (Bio)) new book is called "Answering the New Atheism: Dismantling Dawkins' Case Against God". You can read excerpts from it here at Amazon.

But if you're only planning on listening, here's a direct link to the Catholic Spotlight interview of co-author Dr. Benjamin Wiker. If you like what you hear, please vote for them at Podcast Alley - and feel free to vote every month to help them get their show in front of more people.

UPDATE: here's a link to Dr. Wiker's website - just FYI. Thanks to his site, I'm glad to give you the Emmaus Road Publishing's three part interview of Dr. Hahn (for reals this time!) and Dr. Wiker via YouTube. If you would like to convert the YouTube to .mp3 to listen on your way to work or whatever it is you do, here's a program for download which will do it quickly and easily (which is what I use) or a website which will do the same.

From the Catholic Spotlight:

Scott Hahn began his career in ministry as a Presbyterian minister out to show Catholics the error in their ways, but his biblical and historical detective work led him to the conclusion that the Catholic church was the historical church of the bible. In 1986, Dr. Hahn joined the Catholic church and has since come to be known as ‘Luther in Reverse’ due to the large number of protestant pastors and bible scholars who have followed him on the journey home to Rome. The tape of his conversion story ‘A Protestant Minister Becomes Catholic‘ is one of the most circulated and listened to Catholic audios over the past 20 years. He is currently a Professor of Theology and Scripture at Franciscan University of Steubenville, and is the founder and director of the Saint Paul Center for Biblical Theology.

In our interview, Scott talks about the legacy of John Paul II, his favorite Saint, and his new book, Reasons to Believe. He discusses the need for a pope as well as why Christ had to die for our sins. He also touches future books that he is currently working on, Ever Ancient, Ever New, a Catholic Bible Dictionary, and a revision of his doctoral dissertation.

Be sure to listen to Kimberly Hahn talk about Chosen and Cherished.

I know a lot of you owe some measure of gratitude to Dr. Hahn. If you either (1) wandered away from the Church and have come back in the last 20 years or (2) are just learning your faith, chances are you've either read his works or read works by folks he has heavily influenced.

That said, here's a lecture of his from the Letter and Spirit site:

Dr. Scott Hahn delves into the heart of mankind’s quest for a sense of belonging... belonging to a family. In this EWTN series, Dr. Hahn and Mike Aquilina guide us to the understanding of marriage and family as inspired, conceived and sustained by God. Joined occasionally by Kimberly Hahn, the trio shares insights into the Biblical foundation of marriage, a foundation whose design is for greatness and holiness.

True to form, in First Comes Love, Dr. Hahn dives into the Gospels to show how "family terminology", words like brother, sister, mother, father and home, dominate the words of Our Lord and the writings of His first followers. It is these words that truly illuminate the central ideas of the Catholic Faith. As you explore such concepts as the fatherhood of God, the marriage of the Church to Christ, and the all-encompassing role of the Holy Spirit, Dr. Hahn will deepen your understanding of the Sacraments and teach you how to create a family life in the image of the Trinity. In chapter after chapter he demonstrates the ways in which the analogy of the family applies to every aspect of our Catholic Faith and its many practices, from the role of "Father" embodied by the ancient Patriarchs and contemporary parish priests, to the comfort and guidance offered by our brothers and sisters who comprise the Communion of Saints, to the nurturing embrace of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of all Christians.

Here's a perennial favorite - Dr. Scott Hahn. He did a series of programs with Mike Aquilina on EWTN (which are all available on the EWTN Archives, but in that silly RealAudio format) discussing his various books. These are the MP3s of one of those shows - The Lamb's Supper. This book was one of the first I read when I started getting serious about my faith -- after Karl Keating's Catholicism and Fundamentalism (an outstanding introduction to Biblical Apologetics, BTW). If you don't know much about the mass, or feel like you "just don't get anything out of it," you should give these a try.
