Advent Reflections - Gaudete Sunday

The Third Sunday of Advent is known popularly as Gaudete Sunday. The name comes from the first word of the Mass in Latin: Gaudéte in Dómino semper: íterum dico, gaudéte (Missale Romanum 2002), which is taken from St. Paul’s letter to the Phillipians (Phil 4,4) and translates as “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” This Sunday is also known as Rose Sunday for the Rose-colored vestments that may be used at Mass. For this Gaudete Sunday, Br. Hyacinth Cordell has written a reflection on the colors of Advent, violet and rose. His written reflection can be seen on the Catholic Exchange website. In addition, Fr. Aquinas Guilbeau, OP, has his third video reflection, recorded from our church of St. Vincent Ferrer in New York city:

Advent Retreat

Here's an Advent Retreat with Fr. Gillick, S.J. These Retreat Conferences begin with a short introductory prayer followed by a thirty-minute conference based on the movements of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, with Advent in mind.

This retreat offers two presentations on each of the Sundays of Advent. It may be made in a variety of ways, by individuals or a group:
  • over a 3 day weekend, early in Advent
  • over 8 days, one conference a day
  • over 4 weeks, two conferences each week.
