I've been doing some work lately with various feminist topics. This post concerns the practice of Female Genital Mutilation, or FGM. For more information on FGM, check out www.fgmnetwork.org.
From the President of the Pontifical Council for the Family:
144. In traditional cultures, parents must not accept practices which are contrary to Christian morality, for example rites associated with puberty which sometimes involve introducing young people to sexual practices or acts contrary to the dignity and rights of the person, such as the genital mutilation of girls.
