Richard Dawkins is a world-famous evolutionist, author of The Selfish Gene (amongst a whole host of other popular science books) and is Oxford University’s Charles Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science. His latest best-seller The God Delusion has captivated readers interested in the religion-atheism debate worldwide. His most prominent adversary is Alister McGrath. Also a fellow Oxford academic where he holds a chair in Historical Theology, McGrath holds a doctorate in molecular biophysics and has written two book-length critiques of Dawkins (Dawkins’ God: Memes, Genes and the Meaning of Life and The Dawkins Delusion). Naturally, they disagree passionately about the existence of God and religious truth. The links below are mp3 downloads of a debate between the two held in early 2007. Joan Bakewell chairs.
Part 1 of the debate (approx. 30 minutes)
Part 2 of the debate (approx. 30 minutes)
You may also be interested in a separate debate between the two men which was done for Dawkins’ 2006 Root of All Evil documentary. That interview never made it into the show. However, you can watch it here.
