St. Irenaeus Ministries hosts a talk I'm looking forward to - The Foundations of Biblical Thinking. I listened to the series on Malachi and it was quite good. I'm expecting no less here. Here's what they write:

Way back in September of 2006 we posted a preview of "The Foundations of Biblical Thinking." This study of Torah has remained one of our most downloaded episodes, so by popular demand here it is in its entirety!
...
The Old Testament offers four key gifts to Christians: (1) it points to Christ as the messiah and the savior of Israel; (2) it deepens our understanding of Christ by enabling us to read the New Testament in the light of the Old, and vice versa; (3) it provides a type of spiritual road-map for life, describing a saga which we are all fated to relive; and (4) it reformats our thinking to focus more on God, opening the doors into the infinite recesses of the Divine Heart and His sublime mysteries.
...
Remember that this series and all our other material is available on our webstore, siministries.org/Store.
...
Music: The Symphony No. 9, opus 95, "From the New World" by Antonin Dvorak from musopen.com.
The above text is accompanied by the first link I'm posting below. The second link below is one which looked...well...relevant. A listener update in the combox would be helpful if you get to it before I do.

This program, about which I've blogged before, is somewhat unique in Catholic media. It has an in-your-face quality I've not encountered anywhere else (and I rather like). For those who would challenge the Church and her teachings as being mealy-mouthed or weak, this is a good program to listen to. For others who firmly believe the Catholic Church is the Church Christ founded, this is a good way to make sure you're doing it right. If an aggressive approach would more likely turn you away -- you should probably steer clear. This program requires a helmet.

Since Season Four is now up, I present you the following:

The One True Faith is Saint Michael's Media's weekly television program which showcases the truths of the Catholic faith in a lively and exciting manner, presented by multiple Emmy-award winner Michael Voris. Michael tackles a single topic each week, explaining the Catholic faith in an exciting and engaging manner.

Season Four

Episode One : When I Am Lifted Up
Episode Two : Eat My Flesh
Episode Three : The Lord's Supper
Episode Four : Paul & the Eucharist
Episode Five : The Eucharist & the Second Coming
Episode Six : The Lamb of God
Episode Seven : Breaking of the Bread
Episode Eight : Peter and the Eucharist
Episode Nine : My Lord and My God
Episode Ten : Bread and Wine
Episode Eleven : Judas and the Eucharist
Episode Twelve : Mary and the Eucharist
Episode Thirteen : Eucharistic Miracles

So yeah, I really love this priest. He baptized my firstborn son, renewed my faith in the orthodoxy of young priests and instilled in me a great love for the Exultet (about which you already know if you come here often). His name is Dan Scheidt, and I'm firmly convinced he's a modern day saint -- may God keep and preserve him.

This past Holy Week, he returned to my parish (where he was formerly associate pastor and has since left to shepherd a flock of his own) and delivered a wonderful meditation on the Exultet. Please do give it a listen through GodTube:

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

The Holy Week talks of my other priests, also wonderful in their own ways, may be found here:

Fr. Bob Lengenrich- a
very young priest (ordained late 2007) with a particular zeal for the faith and an energy level not to be matched:

Fr. Bill Schooler - a not-as-young priest, my pastor, and a man with a pastoral sensitivity like few others: http://www.stpius.net/index.cfm?load=news&newsarticle=71&page=1

A while back I did a post on a fella' I really like named The Apologist. He's an exceptionally talented Catholic rap artist. Apparently, he found the blog and writes in:

I am that artist, and am no longer a member of that order Miles Jesu and have gone back to school. I still am doing my music ministry though so you may want to update that post to reflect the new information. My website and everything else remains the same. Also my new rap name is D-Major, but some still call me "the Apologist" you can hear my new music at www.d-major.net or at www.catholic-rap.com

God bless and Happy Easter.
D-Major aka The Apologist

His www.D-major.net site has a number of tracks you can listen to for free through his embedded player. If you want a good sample from that playlist, I recommend "Catacomb to ya' dome" or (linked in my previous post) "53 Beads on a String".

From the EPPC:

Religious Freedom for All? A Critique of "A Common Word between Us and You"
A Discussion with Patrick Soohkdeo and Andrew Saperstein

Cosponsored by Rick Santorum

On October 13, 2007, 138 Muslim leaders signed an open letter addressed to Pope Benedict XVI and 26 other named heads of Christian denominations that was titled "A Common Word between Us and You."

One response entitled "Loving God and Neighbor Together: A Christian Response to a Common Word Between Us and You" was initiated by the Yale Center for Faith and Culture and was signed by more than 300 so-called "Christian leaders" - including many evangelical academics, pastors and parachurch ministry leaders.

Patrick Sookhdeo, Director of The Institute for the Study of Islam and Christianity and The Barnabus Fund, believes we should be deeply skeptical of the open letter and is concerned about the semi-official "Christian response." His critique is summarized in a response to the open letter by the Barnabas Fund:

The letter suggests that loving your neighbor is a concept common to both Islam and Christianity. But it ignores the fact that the Muslim concept of love for other people can only operate within the limited scope of shari`a. Therefore in Islam there can be no absolute love for all humans, as in Christianity. Islam treats specific groups of people in specific ways: Christians and Jews are to be humiliated and brought under Islamic dominion as second rate subjects; infidels must accept Islam or be killed; apostates are to be killed if they do not return to Islam; Islamic sects considered heretical are to be fought and annihilated. Thus "neighbor" is a very limited concept in Islam, i.e. limited to fellow Muslims of the same tradition.

Dr. Patrick Sookhdeo is the International Director of the Barnabas Fund and the Institute for the Study of Islam and Christianity. He holds a Ph.D. from London University 's School of Oriental and African Studies, a D.D. from Western Seminary, Portland , Oregon for work on pluralism. He lectures nationally and internationally on Islamic issues, multicultural issues and race issues. Dr. Sookhdeo is Senior Visiting Fellow at the Defence Academy of the UK and Visiting Fellow at Cranfield University . He is the author/editor of ten books and numerous papers on these subject areas, including his most recent Global Jihad: The Future in the Face of Militant Islam.

The event is sponsored by EPPC's Program to Protect America's Freedom. For an audio recording of the lecture, please click here.

UPDATE: Wow. If you thought you knew anything about the particulars of the Schiavo case, give this a listen. I assure you, you had no idea. I've read several research papers by prominent bioethicists (in addition to the ridiculous coverage by the media) and none of them discussed the points made by Mr. Gibbs. Do check this out.

From the CLA:

Attorney David Gibbs III

In this emotional, power-packed video interview, Attorney David Gibbs III, lead attorney in the fight to save the life of Terri Schiavo, explains what really happened behind the scenes in the case and why it matters to all of us. An excellent resource for use in public showings in churches, schools, or other outreach opportunities, the full-length, high-resolution DVD is available upon request from the Christian Law Association.

Special thanks to David Webb at Sonlight Studios for his outstanding efforts to make this video possible. If your church or school needs a promotional video, please contact David at www.sonlightstudios.com.

Rejoice, heavenly powers! Sing, choirs of angels!
Exult, all creation around God's throne!
Jesus Christ, our King, is risen!
Sound the trumpet of salvation!

Rejoice, O earth, in shining splendor,
radiant in the brightness of your King!
Christ has conquered! Glory fills you!
Darkness vanishes for ever!

Rejoice, O Mother Church! Exult in glory!
The risen Savior shines upon you!
Let this place resound with joy,
echoing the mighty song of all God's people!

My dearest friends,
standing with me in this holy light,
join me in asking God for mercy,

that he may give his unworthy minister
grace to sing his Easter praises.

Deacon: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Deacon: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Deacon: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.

It is truly right
that with full hearts and minds and voices
we should praise the unseen God, the all-powerful Father,
and his only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

For Christ has ransomed us with his blood,
and paid for us the price of Adam's sin to our eternal Father!

This is our passover feast,
when Christ, the true Lamb, is slain,
whose blood consecrates the homes of all believers.

This is the night
when first you saved our fathers:
you freed the people of Israel from their slavery
and led them dry-shod through the sea.

This is the night
when the pillar of fire destroyed the darkness of sin!

This is the night
when Christians everywhere,
washed clean of sin and freed from all defilement,
are restored to grace and grow together in holiness.

This is the night
when Jesus Christ broke the chains of death
and rose triumphant from the grave.

What good would life have been to us,
had Christ not come as our Redeemer?
Father, how wonderful your care for us!
How boundless your merciful love!
To ransom a slave you gave away your Son.

O happy fault,
O necessary sin of Adam,
which gained for us so great a Redeemer!

Most blessed of all nights,
chosen by God to see Christ rising from the dead!

Of this night scripture says:
"The night will be as clear as day:
it will become my light, my joy."

The power of this holy night dispels all evil,
washes guilt away, restores lost innocence,
brings mourners joy;
it casts out hatred, brings us peace,
and humbles earthly pride.

Night truly blessed when heaven is wedded to earth
and man is reconciled with God!

Therefore, heavenly Father,
in the joy of this night,
receive our evening sacrifice of praise,
your Church's solemn offering.

Accept this Easter candle,
a flame divided but undimmed,
a pillar of fire that glows to the honor of God.

(For it is fed by the melting wax,
which the mother bee brought forth
to make this precious candle.)

Let it mingle with the lights of heaven
and continue bravely burning
to dispel the darkness of this night!

May the Morning Star which never sets
find this flame still burning:
Christ, that Morning Star,
who came back from the dead,
and shed his peaceful light on all mankind,
your Son, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Amen.

Why are they free? My goal is to spread the Word of Christ in song, and to reach as many as I can, as deeply as I can, for as long as I can. By offering free downloads, I am able to reach thousands of people around the world who simply can't afford to buy Christian music.

You may burn as many copies of the CDs as you like for family and friends. I only ask that you give them away free of charge. Freely you have received, so freely give...

Here are the two CDs he's made for Lent. Please go to his site for the rest!

The Rochester NY Chesterton Society, in conjunction with St. Irenaeus Ministries, gave the following talks:

The Conversion of St. Paul
On October 6th, 2007 the Rochester, NY Chesterton Society held their annual conference, entitled "Conversion of Heart". David Higbee opened the day with this talk on the conversion of St. Paul.

The Conversion of St. Augustine
Dr. RJ Stansbury's talk from the 2007 Chesterton Conference discusses the crucial role that monasticism played in the conversion of St. Augustine.

The Conversion of Joseph Pearce
Joseph Pearce was born the son of a fierce anti-Catholic in the late 1960s. Hear the story of how God's grace carried a young, uneducated "agnostic Protestant bigot" who was "racist to the core" into the Mystical Body of Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church.

Now a professor of English Literature at Ave Maria University and the author of 147 books, including notable biographies of 20th Century's greatest Catholic writers, his conversion is a story of providence triumphing over political anger, racial hatred and violence. While serving his first prison sentence for "publishing material likely to incite racial hatred" Pearce began to read GK Chesterton. He felt the "rug being pulled out from underneath his prejudices" because he could not defeat Chesterton's arguments in economics and theology. During a second prison sentence he began to pray, and from that point it was only a matter of time before he was brought into the Church.

A lot of people simply don't understand what the Church means when she says something is a "mystery". Too often we focus on the negative aspect, that this is something which will never be fully understood (by any human) either in this life or the next. Seldom is it mentioned that while not capable of being fully understood, we may still come to a much better understanding than the one we presently hold. Reason and reflection can take us far deeper than we presently are, and since God is our Divine Beloved we ought to want to know as much about Him as possible. Would you settle on merely knowing your spouse's name? Of course not! You want to know everything about them, and you can sometimes glimpse that even after a lifetime together your spouse will still find ways to surprise you. That's how it is with God -- and that's why He gave us spouses, so that we can glimpse the truths about Him. (For more info on this last point, see the lectures in the Theology of the Body section of my blog.)

With this in mind, I invite you to grow deeper in your understanding of the Most Holy Trinity. Come, know the God who is Love.

Wesley J. Smith writes:
My pal Bill Hurlbut expounds in this radio interview on the moral responsibilities of scientists, the human future, and other matters of interest to SHSers. For example, he explains why he holds the human embryo as having intrinsic moral worth:

A lot of what I was hearing [during deliberations of the President's Council on Bioethics] by way of argument [in favor of human cloning] was actually just natural moral sentiments. People were saying, "How can you count something that is no bigger than a period at the end of a sentence the equivalent of a 3-year-old?" Well, in a way we don't by nature, but we do by mind. We can recognize the continuity as a living organism. And that...was for me a very crucial connection. I realized that each one of us started in those early phases with an absolutely magnificent intrinsic power to unfold in our individual form. Each one of us is unique and an unrepeatable gift of life. And in that sense, I decided...that human embryos should have moral worth that is worthy of protection and nurture.

It is a very NPRish interview--don't expect sound bites. But it is an important conversation about profound issues. Check it out.
I will!

From the Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis, MO, comes this Exorcism Workshop. Too often nowadays the existence of demons is shirked off as antiquated, but if Christ believed in them I think we ought to take them rather seriously. Our Lord was an exorcist! While much of the ills people suffer can be attributed to legitimately treatable psychological problems, far too little credit is given to the possibilities of demonic possession. Give this series a listen and find out more about the demonic and how to fight it.
