Boy, I'm sorry to see Mark Zwick's name come up re: immigration teachings. I've listened to him before, and he seems to romanticize entering the country illegally. I was particularly incensed (in another, older recording entitled "Immigration and Social Justice") when he dodged a calmly stated, articulately worded question about immigration and crime rates. He just side-stepped the question without even addressing the man's concerns. (Why? Did he not like the answer?)
I wish we had more thoughtful and reasonable speakers than Mark and Louise Zwick speaking on behalf of the Church about this issue. To be sure it's a many-sided issue about which Catholics of good faith often disagree. But to present the "pie-in-the-sky, why-can't-we-all-get-along" viewpoint as "the Catholic viewpoint" is a disservice not only to the Faith, but to reason as well.
Correction: The name of the original MP3 featuring Mr. Zwick (referred to in post above) was "Immigration and Catholic Social Teaching." I can't find the link anymore (it's saved on my iTunes without a web address in the info section), but if anyone is interested in it, a web search may be helpful.
OK, last post. I tried to find the original MP3 and couldn't. However, I listened to the first couple of minutes of this one -- and I think it's the same one (different title). Anyway, if anyone listens to this and find a sidestepped question about crime in the q & a, then this is the one I found pretty off-putting.
